Along with Chapter Four came the addition of Reality Augments, selectable powerups that last the entirety of a match. Some Augments aren’t all that great, they won’t be game-changing, but others can play a decisive role in whether the player wins a match or not. This guide will list all available Augments in Fortnite at the moment and teach players everything they need to know about them.

Updated January 24, 2023, by Ashely Claudino: Reality Augments have been a hit in the Fortnite community. This temporary perks system works really well with the game, and it allows players to choose a different route each time they enter a new match.

The course of a Fortnite match can change greatly depending on the Reality Augments that the player has decided to go with, and it definitely mixes things up each time around. Epic Games has added five new Reality Augments in a new update, therefore this guide was also updated to keep it in sync with the game. The new Augments have been listed down below along with their description.

How To Activate Augments

Once the Battle Bus leaves the starting island and begins flying over the main Battle Royale Island, the Reality Augments countdown will start at two minutes and 30 seconds. It’ll be ready for activation before the first storm circle starts even closing.

There is no way to speed up the process of having the Augments option ready before anyone else. Regardless of how long a player takes to activate an Augment, the countdown until the next one is ready will start straight away after the last one becomes available.

Once the “Ready” marker appears on the right side of the screen, gamers will have to press that button and decide which Augment they’d like to activate; its effect will be enabled until the end of the match and there is no way to deactivate, so it must be chosen wisely.

For example, the Party Time Reality Augment makes it, so the user will gain balloons over time and thus start to float, this can be an unfortunate choice sometimes because it can be annoying or the balloons might appear at an undesired time. Unfortunately, this is the case, there’s nothing to be done except removing the balloons manually every single time.

Players will be able to choose a maximum of four Augments per match. They get to choose between two options at first, and then they can reroll to get different options if they aren’t happy; the first reroll is free, and then it’s possible to spend 100 gold bars to get extra rerolls.

All Available Reality Augments

At the moment there are 27 available Reality Augments in Fortnite. Before the content update, there were only 22 Reality Augments, but Epic Games decided to add Shotgun Striker, Peely’s Plunder, Rarity Check, Zero Chance, and Danger Hero. The game is updated regularly, so this number might keep increasing over time with new updates. Players can check out the Augments tab in the Map menu to check out how many they’ve discovered.

Augments improve the player’s performance during a match, and they can improve various skills. They are separated into four categories: Combat, Game Changer, Mobility and Scouting, and Looting. Here are the augments players can discover and their effect during gameplay:

Combat

Game Changer

Mobility & Scouting

Looting

How To Unlock All Augments

The more someone plays, the more likely they are to unlock new Reality Augments. It’s all up to RNG, unfortunately, but if the player makes sure to always use as many Augments as possible per match it’s more likely that they’ll unlock them faster.

Players that have enough gold bars can also spend them to reroll as times as they can to increase their chances of getting an Augment that they didn’t have yet.

Another way to gain access to more Reality Augments is to play with friends. In a recent update, Epic Games made it, so players could borrow Augments from their teammates. When these Augments appear on the list of selectable Augments, a teammate’s icon will appear on the side to identify that they can only be loaned. Selecting them won’t add them to the player’s Augments collection, but they can be tested and used until the end of the match.

It is unknown whether Reality Augments will continue to be a part of Fortnite in the upcoming season or if they’re exclusive to Chapter 4 Season 1. Regardless of this, players should keep getting the most out of these perks while they’re available as they’re extremely fun to mess around with.

Fortnite is available for Mac, Mobile, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
