Alongside this main quest to restore peace to Athia, there are several side quests available that the game refers to as Detours. All Detours are accepted in the city of Cipal, and will become available as players progress through the game. As any RPG fan will know, these quests may take a little extra time but will reward players with extra items, information, and bonuses.

1 Chasing The Cats

Naming conventions of side quests in RPGs can often lead players to thinking that they’re not overly important, when in reality these quests unlock vital items. This is the case for nine cat chasing detours in Forspoken. While they might seem unimportant, these quests reward players with Poppets – small wooden dolls that act as a secondary currency.

Poppets can be traded in for different materials and gear in the game, and collecting all nine will unlock the trophy A Roaring Trade. The cat chasing Detours will become available at different stages of the story, so players should keep a close eye on what Detours they have unlocked.

2 A Guided Tour

This particular Detour is important for Forspoken players to complete as it automatically transitions into another Detour that will reward players with more XP. Available to complete after Chapter 4, players must have Frey follow the man through the town. This Detour will reward players with Archive Entries and 50 XP.

When the Detour transitions into Feeding the Sheep, players will need to locate hungry sheep and feed them. The Cuff Scan can be used to aid in this task. Completing the Feeding the Sheep Detour will reward players with 100XP.

3 Sila’s Pact

Rewarding players with one of the two missable pieces of equipment in Forspoken, Sila’s Pact is definitely a Detour that should not be skipped when it becomes available at the start of Chapter 7. Start the quest by entering the archives in the north side of the town through the door at the stairs and speak with Johedy.

Johedy will send players to Panoest where they must defeat enemies and collect an item from the building. Once players have returned to Johedy at the archives they will be granted with the Nemeni Prisaha necklace, Archive Entries, and 100XP.

4 Cipal Reborn

Several of the game’s Detours take place after the main storyline has concluded. Players who create a save file and choose ‘Continue’ once they’ve returned to the title screen will have an opportunity to play through the final tidying up chapter of the game. In this chapter, not only will new Detours become available, but any of the missed ‘Chasing the Cats’ Detours will reopen too.

To complete Cipal Reborn players who have accessed Chapter 13 will need to talk to Pilo in the lower city. By helping three people in this Detour with various tasks, players will be rewarded with the Rebirth trophy and 100XP.

5 Dancing In Cipal: Encore

Though the initial Dancing in Cipal Detour is not particularly special, its two related Detours in Chapter 13 are well worth completing. After Cipal Reborn has been completed, players will be able to speak to Pilo in the Cipal Tavern.

To complete this Detour, they must agree to dance with him and press the corresponding buttons as they appear on the screen. The dance can be retried any number of times, so players need not worry if they miss any of the buttons. Completing Dancing in Cipal: Encore will reward them with 300 XP and 17 Mana.

6 Dancing In Cipal: Finale

Available immediately after completing the previous Detour, Dancing in Cipal: Finale is begun in the very same location. Players must talk to Pilo yet again and ask him to dance. Like the other Dancing in Cipal Detours, it requires players to press buttons as they appear on the screen to make Frey dance.

Like the previous dancing Detours, too, it can be retried any number of times until players get it right. The sequence of buttons should be the same each time, so players can memorize it if need be. Completing this Detour will reward players with the Moves trophy and 500XP.

7 Lost Lullabies

Another of the Detours available after the main story is Lost Lullabies. Players will need to travel to the upper city of Cipal and speak with Johedy on the stairs. Like previous Detours with this NPC, she will request for Frey to obtain an item for her as well as travel to some other locations.

Once players have visited the archives, entered the prison tower, and spoken to Jannesh, they must travel to Junoon Castle. Here, players will need to defeat some enemies and locate the item they are seeking. This Detour has the highest reward of all, granting players the Promises trophy and 1000XP.

Forspoken is available on PlayStation 5 and PC.
