The news was shared jointly by Nikki Bella and Chigvintsev via their Instagram accounts, with the couple seemingly taking off to Paris to get married and spend at least part of their honeymoon, something that will probably be revealed in further detail in the E! Entertainment 4-episode special called Nikki Bella Says I Do, which they also announced. Nikki Bella rose to fame in the WWE SmackDown circuit, alongside her sister Brie, mainly during the 2010s. However, they have been semi-retired since 2016, only featuring sporadically to team up with the likes of Ronda Rousey in the WWE due to injuries and other commitments.

For example, in late 2017 Nikki Bella took part in Dancing with the Stars, where she was paired up with her future husband for 7 weeks of competition before being eliminated from the competition. At the time, she was engaged to WWE legend turned movie star John Cena, whom she dated between 2012 and 2018. Nikki Bella and Chigvintsev wouldn’t start dating until a year later, but the couple’s relationship seemed stable since then, with them having their first child together, Matteo, in 2020.

After she became a mother and started to focus more on her personal life, Nikki Bella’s wrestling appearances understandably were reduced. This was despite being inducted into the Hall of Fame and starring in the reality series Total Bellas with her sister Brie. Nikki Bella’s latest wrestling bout came in January, during an episode of SmackDown, where she defeated Alicia Fox and Sarah Logan before ultimately being eliminated by her town.

Suffice it to say, today’s WWE looks a whole lot different from when the Bella Twins were in their prime, especially after the retirement of its CEO Vince McMahon under rather controversial circumstances. For example, ring legend turned wrestling executive Triple H recently turned on a McMahon policy of old and decided to allow WWE wrestler to use their full names, which really seems to stick better with the traditions of the sport that gave the world Andre the giant and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

Whether Nikki Bella will return to the WWE in the near future remains to be seen, though for now, it seems unlikely because the happy couple is possibly better off enjoying their lives away from the cameras for a bit.
