Metzen is the former senior vice president of story and franchise development at Blizzard Entertainment. Before Metzen left Blizzard in 2016, he was responsible for shaping the story and characters of the company’s original big three franchises–Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft. Modern WoW owes much to Metzen, who developed a great deal of the story, lore, and characters from Warcraft 2 all the way through World of Warcraft: Legion.

In a recent post on his Twitter, Metzen tipped his proverbial hat to Veritistrasz, an NPC found in the Waking Shores in Dragonflight. Associated with the quest titled “Stay a While,” players have the chance to sit on a cliff side and chat about the past with the old dragon. Players who encountered the side quest–including Metzen–were struck by the somber, emotional moment they were able to share with the character in Dragonflight.
The World of Warcraft community came together on Metzen’s post to share their own experiences with the touching quest. Metzen himself shared some of his other favorite moments in Dragonflight so far, including the tour of the Ohn’ahran Plains alongside the Maruuk Centaur, and the cart ride with Wrathion and Sabellian early on in Dragonflight. Players seem to agree the small moments across the Dragon Isles have enabled the expansion to truly shine.
Though Metzen no longer works for Blizzard, he still provides voice acting for characters like Thrall and Varian Wrynn in World of Warcraft, and Bastion in Overwatch. In 2020, Metzen founded Warchief Gaming, a tabletop role-playing game company currently working on Auroboros: Coils of the Serpent, its first major project. Fans of Metzen can also hear him voice Avizandum the Dragon King in The Dragon Prince in a brief flashback sequence.
With Dragonflight now live, players are exploring every nook and cranny in the game and discovering all the secrets the expansion has to offer. Though Dragonflight has plenty of mysteries to unfold in its main story campaign, the expansion has more open world content, side quests, and activities within it than any previous installments. Lore-loving players like Metzen have plenty of things to discover on the Dragon Isles, and hopefully heartfelt stories like those shared by Veritistrasz in the “Stay a While” quest can help shape fond memories of their time in Dragonflight.
World of Warcraft : Dragonflight is now available for PC.
